Our History

The Christie Centre started around the kitchen table involving families who identified lack of services.

On 6 December 1954 classes started in a Lemon Ave Youth Centre with 4 children, 3 adults and
1 teacher/supervisor.

66 years (2020) later we have over 140 participants and similar staff numbers across 8 sites.

Over the years, the Service has developed into a diverse and ‘Person-Directed’ service, priding ourselves on working beyond ‘Best Practice’ and developing ‘Next Practice’.

The scope of services range from:

  • Recreation and Leisure pursuits
  • Meeting complex care needs of the Individual
  • Independent living skills
  • Ongoing education/training and pathways to employment
  • Positive Behaviour Support
  • Support Coordination and
  • Other valued roles within the community

Our Vision

Supporting people to have meaningful lives in their community

Our Mission

Connecting people with people

Our Values

  • Open and honest communication
  • Team work and collaboration
  • Respect – Accountability
  • Building strong relationships with people, their families, other services and the community.
